Vince McMahon Returns & Potential Sale Of WWE

The biggest headline in recent months was the return of WWE founder, former CEO and creative leader Vince McMahon to the company’s board. He’s been installed alongside his daughter, Stephanie, and former executive Paul Levesque on the board to help it negotiate with potential buyers of its media rights.

McMahon’s re-entry comes amid the fallout from his hush-money allegations that forced him to step down as WWE CEO last year. He still holds voting control of the company, which is worth $3.4 billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

In a letter to the WWE board reviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, McMahon says he is considering returning to the company to help negotiate with potential suitors and involve himself in the media rights negotiation process. He also notes that he’s already involved in the board’s investigation into his hush money pacts, which he said cost the company $14.6 million in unreported expenses from 2006 to 2022.

Streamer Considers Acquisition

The timing of McMahon’s return (with media rights set to expire) could make the WWE an attractive acquisition target for Netflix, which wants to expand its live programming in key markets. The streaming giant could reimagine the WWE’s blue-collar IP as it’s done with Roald Dahl’s stories for movies and TV shows.
